In total, the music was performed and recorded through more than 110 sessions in nine different countries. “Harmonious” shines a light on 15 favorite Disney songs reimagined by a culturally diverse ensemble of 240 artists from around the globe, including musicians, composers, arrangers, vocalists, and more. No end date has been announced for the current show, Harmonious. We’re hopeful that the new show takes its direction from Illuminations, which celebrated the cultures of World Showcase and emphasized unity. Given its poor reception, we weren’t surprised to hear that a replacement is already in development. Guest also really disliked what the permanent installation of the barges which are featured in the show did to the look of Showcase Lagoon. Unlike Illuminations, which had a clear storyline and inspiring message that fit with the theme and purpose of EPCOT, Harmonious felt more like a contest of how many characters and songs can can be fit into twenty minute show. Since its debut, reactions from guests have been largely negative. Although, excitement is buzzing that the new show will follow along with other new updates coming to the park such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Ratatouille.
No immediate announcement has been made on a replacement. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth will be ending in the second half of next year (2019). After a nearly 20 year run, Illuminations: A Reflection of Earth is slated to close at Walt Disney World’s Epcot in 2019.
